Ajax ReX Repeaters for Greater Wireless Range
In larger Ajax installations, the distance between the hub and wireless detectors can increase. An Ajax ReX signal booster can extend the communication range of the security system, allowing Ajax components to be placed even further away from the control panel.

Signal Extension for Larger Ajax Installations
A wireless security system is affected by distance, architectural structures, and the placement of the various components.
For larger commercial properties, warehouses, offices, or multi-story buildings, additional range may therefore be required. A ReX is placed between the Ajax hub and selected wireless devices, enabling communication to be established over a larger area.
This allows an installer to better tailor the system to the size and layout of the project.
Ajax ReX
The Ajax ReX is designed to extend the wireless communication range of compatible Ajax devices that use the Jeweller protocol.
The signal booster receives communications from the hub and transmits them to the assigned devices, and vice versa. According to Ajax, ReX can approximately double the system’s radio communication range.
ReX is a good option for projects where standard wireless range is insufficient, but where photo verification via MotionCam through the repeater is not necessary.
Ajax ReX 2
The Ajax ReX 2 is a more advanced signal booster.
In addition to Jeweller, ReX 2 also supports Wings, allowing compatible devices with photo verification to communicate via the repeater. Furthermore, depending on the configuration and compatible hub, ReX 2 can communicate with the control panel via Ethernet.
This makes the ReX 2 an attractive option for installations that use MotionCam detectors, for example, or where a wired Ethernet connection between the hub and the repeater offers an advantage.
ReX or ReX 2?
Which version is suitable depends on the security system.
ReX is primarily intended for expanding systems that communicate exclusively via Jeweller. Ajax confirms that devices that use only the Jeweller protocol can work with ReX.
ReX 2 is more suitable when support for photo verification is required. The device supports both Jeweller and Wings and can also communicate with a compatible Ajax hub via Ethernet.
For each project, it is therefore necessary to check in advance which hub, detectors, and communication methods will be used.
Backup in Case of Power Outage
Ajax ReX repeaters are powered by an external power supply and also feature a built-in backup battery.
In the event of a power outage, the ReX can continue to operate on its internal backup battery for up to approximately 35 hours, and the ReX 2 for up to approximately 38 hours, depending on conditions and configuration.
This prevents the wireless network extension from failing immediately in the event of a short or prolonged power outage.
Where are Ajax Repeaters used?
An Ajax ReX can be used, for example, in:
- large commercial buildings;
- warehouses and distribution centers;
- multi-story buildings;
- stores with multiple rooms;
- industrial units;
- locations with thick or numerous partition walls;
- facilities where detectors are installed farther from the hub.
The final placement must be determined based on the actual signal strength at the location.
